Connor Everts This month Stewart & Stewart is pleased to feature the newest work by Connor Everts combining printed matter along with mixed media. In speaking about his current "Auxesis Studies" series, the artist writes: "Sometimes we forget our antecedents in the arts, I believed that mine began with the architecture found in Giotto and the loveliness in the remains of the dissolving Cimabues. In a moment of clarity I remembered that my first influences were Hogarth's Tarzan, Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon, and Milton Canniff's Terry and the Pirates. These were my true beginnings of my interest in art. The work itself is about the popular arts presently represented by Sponge Bob Square Pants, Baby Jaguar and Betty Boop and other popular flotsam. Fine Arts is represented by the fortress on the right, for the most part, impervious to any intrusion from the popular."
