Marcia Neblett was born in 1970 in New York City. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at The State University of New York at Purchase, studying woodcut under Master Printmaker Antonio Frasconi. She then received a Master of Fine Arts Degree at The State University of New York at Stony Brook in Painting and Printmaking under Howardina Pindell and Martin Levine.

Neblett's prints play homage to masterful printmaking of the past while being of their own time and sensibility. Although the figure is a primary interest, she frequently finds inspiration in the subject matter of fruit, vegetables and flowers. Neblett admires the dual simplicity and complexity of these forms. Her focus is on intricate line and pattern that translates well into the bold, black and white outlines of the woodcut medium.

Neblett has been the recipient of grants from the Fulbright Scholar Program, the Jerome Foundation, the MacDowell Colony, The Alden B. Dow Creativity Center and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Neblett’s drawings, prints and paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museum exhibitions, both nationally and internationally in New York, New Jersey, Texas, California, Mumbai, Dubai and Stockholm.  She has participated in numerous institution exhibitions including the A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn, The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, The Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York, The Lalit Kala Akademi in Chennai, India and the Nehru Center in Mumbai, India.  Several of her drawings and prints are in the permanent collection of The Arts Students League of New York and The MacDowell Colony and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi.

Marcia Neblett is an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts, Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia.
